Terms & Conditions
Conditions
Surrey Swim School provides structured swimming lessons tailored to individual learning speeds, with progress reports each term. Booking becomes effective upon confirmation via phone, email, or writing, and full payment is required to secure a place—allocated on a first-come, first-served basis. Payment confirms your place and is non-refundable. Preferred time slots cannot be guaranteed every term. Changes to lesson time or location may be requested but are not assured.
Existing swimmers have re-enrolment priorities, with invoices issued near term-end; late payment may forfeit the place to new applicants. Payments are accepted via Direct Debit, cash, or bank transfer. A £20 administration fee applies to each failed Direct Debit.
Cancellations
Cancellations on a medical basis must be submitted in writing and supported by medical evidence. Refunds are not given for missed sessions such as family holidays or a child refusing to get into the water. Surrey Swim School may change or cancel sessions, offering rescheduling or credit where feasible.
Staff
• All teachers are qualified and insured swimming teachers, holding relevant certifications from British Swimming and/or the Swimming Teachers’ Association (STA).
• Group lessons consist of a maximum of six swimmers. Standard lessons are 30 minutes in duration, with advanced sessions lasting 45–60 minutes.
• Some physical contact with children is occasionally necessary for safety and instruction. All staff adhere strictly to Child Protection procedures and undergo regular DBS (Disclosure and Barring Service) checks.
• Surrey Swim School reserves the right to change teachers or amend courses when necessary.
• In the event a teacher is unavailable due to illness or unforeseen circumstances, we will endeavour to provide a qualified replacement.
Supervision
• All participants must follow the safety and facility rules at each swim venue.
• Parents/guardians are responsible for their children before and after lessons, including in changing rooms and pool areas. Children must not be left unattended.
• Parents/guardians are required to remain on poolside throughout the lesson.
• Surrey Swim School accepts responsibility for children only during lesson time while in the water. If a swimmer exits the pool (e.g., to use the toilet), responsibility reverts to the parent/guardian.
• Surrey Swim School is not responsible for spectators.
Behaviour, Conduct and Exclusions
• Swimmers must shower and use the toilet prior to lessons.
• Children aged 8+ must use the appropriate male/female changing room independently. Children under 8 may use the opposite-sex changing room when accompanied by a responsible adult if no same-sex adult is available.
• No food or drink is permitted in the pool area or changing rooms.
• Buggies are not allowed poolside.
• Swimmers should not eat at least 30 minutes before their lesson.
• Please arrive 10 minutes before the lesson to be ready when registration begins.
• Swimmers must not enter the water until instructed by their teacher.
• Swimwear must be appropriate: shorts should be above the knee; long hair should be tied back.
• Spectacles should be removed; prescription goggles may be worn if required.
• Swimming hats are mandatory at Banstead Prep and St John’s School, and recommended at other venues.
• Prohibited Poolside Behaviours: running, diving (unless instructed), ducking, fighting, bombing, shouting, and throwing objects.
• Warnings will be issued for unacceptable behaviour. Continued misconduct may result in removal from the session.
• No jewellery (including earrings in newly pierced ears) may be worn in the pool. Refunds will not be issued due to restrictions related to recent piercings.
• We expect respectful and inclusive behaviour from all swimmers, parents, guardians, and staff. Discrimination, bullying, or aggression of any kind will result in immediate exclusion. In serious cases, authorities such as the police may be contacted.
Medical Information and Illness
• All relevant medical conditions relating to the swimmer or any attending guardian must be disclosed during booking or re-enrolment. This information will be handled confidentially.
• If medical conditions are declared, it is the responsibility of the parent/guardian to confirm with a doctor that swimming is safe for participation.
• Swimmers should not attend lessons if unwell, including conditions such as coughs, colds, sinus infections, ear infections, stomach bugs, or any contagious illness (e.g., COVID-19, chickenpox, conjunctivitis, impetigo).
• For gastric illnesses, swimmers must wait at least 2 weeks from the last episode before returning to lessons.
• Refunds are not issued for missed lessons due to illness.
• All swimming activities are undertaken at the participant’s own risk. Surrey Swim School cannot guarantee a risk-free environment.
Pool Safety and Closures
• In emergencies, teachers will follow the venue’s Emergency Action Plan (EAP). Swimmers may be directed to remain poolside or evacuated to a designated assembly point.
• On rare occasions, pool closures may occur with minimal notice. In such cases, we will contact affected parties via text and email. Please ensure your contact information remains up to date.
• Refunds are only issued in cases where Surrey Swim School cancels a session.
Lost Property
• Surrey Swim School does not accept liability for personal belongings that are lost, damaged, or left at the venue.
